September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
Dr. David Samadi, Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology and Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, uses Prostate Cancer Awareness Month to share reminders about early screening and treatment options.
Dr. Samadi stresses the importance of a PSA level baseline test at age 40, with annual follow-ups at age 45. For those men who are high-risk – African Americans, older men, and those with a family history – annual screening should begin earlier.
As a robotic prostatectomy expert, Dr. Samadi stresses the benefits of removing the cancerous prostate through robotic surgery with an experienced surgeon. His own SMART (Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Technique) surgery improves cure rate and offers significant post-surgery benefits. Men are able to resume their quality of life much quicker after robotic surgery, with excellent sexual potency and urinary continence results.
Dr. Samadi also reminds women about their key role in helping men fight prostate cancer with early, annual screenings.
